In this review of Under Canvas Zion, we share some background on the resorts, advice on which tent to choose, the amenities you can expect on-site, what to pack for a trip to Under Canvas, as well as things to do in Zion National Park.

Introduction To Under Canvas

Imagine a place where the comfort of familiarity meets the thrill of the unknown, where the canvas walls of luxury tents offer the same warm embrace at each location, yet the subtle distinctions make every visit feel uniquely special.

Welcome to Under Canvas Zion, a part of the renowned Under Canvas family. This glamping resort is dedicated to connecting guests with the great outdoors, fostering a sense of camaraderie and adventure, and redefining the essence of luxury in nature.

Under Canvas is a family of 11 safari-inspired locations, each with its distinct character, from the layout of the reception’s main tent to the breathtaking landscapes that cradle the camp.

With evenings filled with enchanting activities like live music or stargazing, and cozy fire pits dotting the landscape, each Under Canvas site offers an unparalleled, unforgettable experience.

Location

Under Canvas Zion occupies a prime location, approximately 30 minutes from the entrance to the Zion National Park. Situated on several private acres of land, completely secluded from other resorts or properties, the resort allows you to bask in your surroundings without any distractions.

For us, this was one of the best parts of this glamping resort. We passed other glamping sites around Zion that looked beautiful but unfortunately backed onto main roads or residential properties which spoiled the view. There were absolutely no such concerns when staying at Under Canvas Zion and it felt like there was not a single of camp for miles!

Types Of Glamping Tents At Under Canvas, Zion

At Under Canvas Zion, you’ll find an array of tent types designed to suit various group sizes, from intimate couples to larger families and groups. We have rounded up the options so that you can find the one that best accommodates your needs:

Deluxe Tents

The Deluxe Tents are the standard / cheapest tent option, however, they still deliver on the luxe glamping experience and we would recommend these as a perfect option for a couple or friends to share.

The tent comes with a plush king-size bed adorned with cozy linens, ensuring a good night’s sleep. A private ensuite bathroom with a pull shower, sink, and flushing toilet provides all the comforts of home.

There is a cozy interior seating area and a wood-burning stove with complimentary firewood keeps the tent cozy on chillier nights. Outside, there is a private deck with small table chairs, perfect for unwinding at the end of a long day of hiking in the park.

Suite Tents

The Suite Tents are the epitome of luxury in the heart of nature. They feature all the amenities of a Deluxe Tent, king size bed, wood burner, private bathroom, and outside deck.

The added bonus in the suite tent is the separate lounge area, complete with a queen-size sofa bed.

Stargazer Tents

For couples seeking an elevated outdoor experience, the Stargazer Tent is a perfect choice. It offers the same amenities as the Deluxe Tent but adds a special feature: a night sky viewing window positioned above the king-size bed.

Kids Tents

For families, Under Canvas has the added option of a private kids tent. These tipi-style tents feature two twin-size beds with luxe linens and are conveniently positioned adjacent to the main tent for kids under 18.

Each Kids Tent includes a side table with a USB-powered lantern and fan, as well as outdoor seating for added convenience.

Tent Amenities

Bathroom and Shower: The shower is a pull shower, meaning you have to pull on the handle to release water which saves on energy and water use. The water may start off cold, but give it a minute and you will get some hot water come through!

Toiletries: The shower comes with organic bath products including shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel.

Towels: There are two sets of bath and face towels in each Deluxe Tent.

Power: The tent comes equipped with rechargeable USB power banks that can be used to power the lanterns and fans, as well as your devices such as a phone or kindle. There are no sockets in the tent, but you can sometimes find sockets in the shared main tent to power a laptop. For drying hair there are bathrooms by the main tent you can use which each have a power socket.

Lanterns: Each tent has three lanterns, one on each side of the bed and a smaller bathroom lantern over the sink. These provide ample light in the room in the evenings. You will also find a light over the deck.

Dining At Under Canvas

Under Canvas Zion takes your glamping experience to another level with an array of on-site dining options. Their cafe-style kitchen serves options for a hearty breakfast or dinner.

Each resort offers a different menu, although there are some common dishes such as the cheese and charcuterie board that appear on the menu at many Under Canvas resorts. If you so each resort you visit you will get to try different dishes.

In addition to the cafe, there are grab-and-go options including wraps, sandwiches, yogurts, and snacks that you can take with you on your day out.

And of course, let’s not forget about the complimentary s’mores! S’mores are available at any time of day and can be enjoyed fireside.

Experiences At Under Canvas

The camp itself is an experience and just sitting on the deck of your tent watching the sunrise or set is a wonderful activity, but the resort offers much more than that!

On Site Experiences

Each Under Canvas resort organizes a variety of on-site activities and experiences to make your stay extra special, and to encourage guests to meet one another and be #OutsideTogether.

During our stay at the Zion camp, there was watercolor painting and live music to enjoy. At other locations we have visited, they have offered trivia, yoga, scavenger hunts, bingo, and movie nights.

The lobby tent also is filled with board games and puzzles and outside you will find cornhole, providing plenty of ways to connect with your partner, group, or other guests at the resort.

Offsite Experiences

Each Under Canvas location offers a variety of experiences that you can book through them.

The Zion location has guided hiking in the national park, canyoneering, rock climbing, mountain biking, horseback riding, Via Ferrata, cycling, and stargazing tours.

Zion is a designated dark sky park making it the perfect location for a stargazing tour, but we found that the clear skies lent themselves to incredible star gazing right from our tent!

Unplug and Recharge

One of the beautiful things about Under Canvas Zion is that it offers an opportunity to spend time with friends, family, and other travelers.

Under Canvas encourages guests to disconnect from technology and reconnect with nature, and to facilitate this, Wi-Fi is intentionally not offered to guests, allowing them to immerse themselves fully in the outdoor experience.

So, make sure to get any emails or social media posts out of the way before you arrive so you can embrace a few days of being totally offline!

At Under Canvas Zion, the commitment to nature goes far beyond providing a luxurious escape into the wilderness. It’s about ensuring that this pristine environment remains unspoiled for generations to come.

Their sustainability initiatives are deeply ingrained in the company’s mission to inspire connections with extraordinary places, people, and the planet by enhancing access to the outdoors. This mindful approach to sustainability takes shape in various ways:

Thoughtful Innovation

Recycling, solar power, and carbon offset practices are consistently integrated to minimize their environmental footprint.

Resources Conservation

Resource conservation is a significant aspect of Under Canvas Zion’s sustainability efforts. Their camps employ a range of eco-friendly measures to conserve water and energy. This includes features like pull-chain showers, low-flow toilets, faucets with automatic shut-off, low-level lighting, and a towel-reuse program.

As a result, their camps use significantly less water and energy than hotels of similar size. They have also replaced traditional electricity with rechargeable USB battery packs in guest tents, reducing their dependence on conventional power sources.

Additionally, select locations offer electric vehicle charging stations for guests to use throughout their stay, encouraging sustainable transportation.

Dark Sky Principles

We already mentioned that Under Canvas is a great place to star gaze and Under Canvas Zion is committed to preserving the natural wonders of the night sky. They actively reduce light pollution by adhering to guidance from the International Dark-Sky Association.

Drawing inspiration from nearby International Dark Sky Parks like Arches, Bryce Canyon, Canyonlands, and the Grand Canyon, their camps incorporate environmentally responsible outdoor lighting, enforce effective lighting policies, and engage in educational efforts to protect and preserve the night sky.

In Good Company

The commitment to sustainability extends to partnerships with like-minded brands. Their bath products are sourced from EO®, a company that operates in a zero-waste facility. West Elm provides furnishings that support sustainable initiatives.

Giving Back to Nature

As a testament to their deep love for the outdoors, Under Canvas Zion has partnered with The Nature Conservancy, a global environmental nonprofit committed to conserving the lands and waters on which all life depends. This partnership supports conservation efforts, education, volunteer programs, and donation initiatives.

Guests of Under Canvas Zion are invited to contribute to this mission by donating $3, $5, or $10 to The Nature Conservancy upon check-in. Furthermore, the brand empowers its employees to give back by offering a program that allows them to donate a portion of their paycheck to The Nature Conservancy.
